Common drain problems
Kitchen sinks may collect grease and food residue. Bathroom drains often collect hair and soap. Floor drains can be affected by sediment or debris. Main-line restrictions can affect several fixtures at once. Identifying the affected section helps avoid treating the wrong part of the system.
Drain snaking or hydro jetting?
A cable machine can break through or retrieve many localized obstructions. Hydro jetting uses water to clean suitable pipe interiors and move debris through the line. A camera inspection may be appropriate for recurring problems or suspected structural damage. The least invasive effective option is usually the sensible starting point.
What not to put down drains
Keep fats, oils, coffee grounds, wipes, paper towels, hygiene products, paint, solvents and construction debris out of household drains. Even products labelled flushable can contribute to blockages in plumbing systems.
Recurring blockages
If the same drain clogs repeatedly, ask whether there is a defect, improper slope, root entry, scale or a recurring source of waste. Repeatedly clearing a symptom without investigating the cause can lead to more service calls.
